Property Description:

The facility was operated as a bulk petroleum and distribution facility with retail fuel sales. In 2002, water was detected in one of three 10,000 gallon underground storage tanks (USTs) utilized for retail sales. Inspection of the UST revealed numerous small holes that were caused by corrosion. Based upon the recommendations by Patriot Environmental Management, all of the USTs were removed and replaced with one 12,000 gallon double-walled tank.

Patriot Environmental Management was selected to manage the project, based upon our ability to provide turn-key contracting services. Patriot supervised and directed the various vendors that were associated with the project, assuring that the project would be completed on time and within budget.

Due to shallow groundwater within the UST excavation, dewatering activities were initiated and maintained throughout the UST removal and installation activities. The removed water was pumped into temporary storage tanks and treated utilizing granular activated carbon, prior to discharge under a permit issued by the PADEP.

Field screening results revealed extensive soil impact. Approximately 400 cubic yards of soil was removed from the excavation, and transported to an approved and licensed treatment facility.

Patriot Environmental Management prepared and submitted all documentation of this work, including all UST closure reports, all UST permitting applications, and all of the necessary documentation for reimbursement of the cleanup costs.

Site groundwater remediation activities were completed with PADEP approval in under a 2-year period.
